This character-driven novel – a psychological and philosophical odyssey – is centered around Ruby, an introspective and haunting woman, perpetually adrift in the middle of her life and consumed by incessant, implacable thoughts and anxieties and regrets that plague the caverns of her psyche. She unremittingly ruminates over her life: unfulfilling and dissatisfying, to her, and filled with a sense of impending doom that she cannot seem to shake – and further, she invariably and inexplicably yearns and desires for the indefinable, that impermanent, ineffable, and transcendental experience. To that end, through the course of the novel, Ruby must learn to overcome her fears and anxieties – those of her past, her present, and her future – so that she can reach enlightened transcendence and finally receive all that she has been searching for, endlessly and unceasingly. This is a novel about one woman’s journey of self-exploration, and in how she overcame all of her deep-seated anxiety-laden issues and fears, those that had hitherto plagued her psyche and stymied her maturation and growth and, most importantly, her life. As Ruby learns to navigate her life and those unexpected philosophical and psychological burdens and constraints of the modern world, we all, in turn, can similarly understand ourselves and our hidden anxieties and motivations and fears better, so that we can, hopefully, at last, learn to lead more fulfilling lives.

J.R. Lanni has been unflinchingly writing since he first contemplated and pontificated over the impermanent and ineffable mysteries of the cosmic void as a young lad, some time ago. He has lived many resplendent arenas of life, in all of its visceral and pervasive forms, including the arts and humanities, philosophy; he has practiced law for many years, and is now a former lawyer. He writes to splinter the tensions between light and dark: those cavernous equidistant depths, and heights, of the soul. When he is not writing he is riding his motorcycle across the continental United States.
